Borg Warner K27 replacement for the Holset HX35W turbocharger. The K27 is a 358/59/.70 (12cm). They have the same internal construction as the SX-E turbos: FMW wheel, 360-degree thrust bearings and lubrication improvements. Drop in install on 94-98 12VS. See notes below for use in 24V and other gen trucks.
The K27 is capable of supporting up to 400HP. It features a 60/83.7mm Forged Milled Wheel (FMW) 7/7-blade design compressor to resist low- and high-cycle fatigue. The turbine is a quick-response, 70/58.83mm 12 blade advanced design cast in Inconel and provides great backpressure control. The turbine housing is a twin-volute, single-valve wastegate housing with 18.2cm2 nozzle area and an adjustable wastegate actuator that is preset at 1.8bar. The oil Inlet is threaded M12 and the oil
drain is threaded M8, just like the Holset.
HX35W OEM Part Numbers that the K27 will replace:
3538881, 3538882, 3538883, 3538884, 3539009, 3539010, 3539369, 3539371,
3539373, 3539911, 3592202, 3592766, 3597911, 3597912, 3599464, 3802881,
3802882, 4090050.
For 1988-1991 (non-intercooled) Dodge Ram trucks, it is recommended that a complete intercooler system from a 1992-1993 truck is fitted, or, if not, the compressor discharge piping will require modification to connect to the intake crossover. It will be necessary as well to move the turbine outlet pipe rearward approximately 2", as the wastegated turbocharger is longer than the non-wastegated H1C turbocharger.
For 1998.5-2002.5 Dodge Ram trucks, equipped with model HX35W
turbochargers, it will be necessary to obtain Cummins 3927811 casting
(rather costly) and 3903652 v-clamp, in order to replace the removed cast five-bolt
elbow and allow the original turbine outlet pipe to connect. No other
modifications will be required, except, possibly a re-index of the
housings, which can be done safely in the field.
For 2000-2002.5
Dodge Ram trucks, equipped with model HY35W turbochargers, it will be
necessary to obtain Cummins 3927811 casting and 3903652 v-clamp, in
order to replace the removed cast five-bolt elbow and allow the
original turbine outlet pipe to connect. It will also be necessary to
replace the two studs installed into the original turbine inlet flange
with two stainless-steel bolt-and-nut combinations. No other
modifications will be required, except, possibly a re-index of the
housings, which can be done safely in the field.
For 2003-2007.5
Dodge Ram trucks, equipped with either model HY35W, HE351W, or HE351CW
turbochargers, It will be necessary to fabricate or obtain adaptors for
the compressor discharge and for the turbine discharge. These materials
already exist in the performance aftermarket. On trucks equipped
with the HE351CW turbocharger, a boost fooler, or resistor must be
used to override the signal to the Command Valve.
*It cannot be
stated strongly enough that the above modifications should only be
undertaken by a qualified individual. Although care has been taken to
research the above data, there are factors that may be present that have
not been confirmed.
**If you, or your end customer, is not 100%
confident in their ability to perform these modifications, the task
should be assigned to a qualified workshop.
